Psychedelics are a class of psychoactive drugs that primarily alter perception, mood, and consciousness. Also known as classic hallucinogens, they work mainly by affecting serotonin receptors in the brain especially the 5-HT2A receptor. Unlike stimulants or depressants, psychedelics do not mainly speed up or slow down the nervous system; instead, they change how reality is experienced.

Common psychedelics include Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), Psilocybin, Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), and Mescaline.
